A British national has been fined AED2000 (US $545) for breaking a statue at Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai while in a drunk state.

The 36-year-old was celebrating a friend’s birthday at one the of the Palm Jumeirah resort’s venues on April 25 when the incident occurred, The National reports.

After drinking beer, vodka, champagne and cocktails, he was seen by hotel security to be in a drunken state and smashed a statue worth AED3000 (US $817), the Court of Misdemeanours was told.

Having been alerted to the state of the patron, a security guard attempted to calm him down and asked him for his ID card.

However, he refused and swore at the guard and, even after being restrained, proceeded to punch him in the face and kick him on the leg. He is also alleged to have snatched the guard’s phone and broken it.

The defendant claimed he could not remember anything about the incident and was charged with drinking alcohol and fined AED2000.

He had previously appeared in court last year for illegally drinking alcohol, according to The National.
