Heinrich Morio has left his position as general manager at the Burj Al Arab to take up the same role at Palazzo Versace in Dubai.

The US-born hotelier had been general manager at the iconic Dubai hotel since 2008, having initially joined operator Jumeirah Group in 2004.

He is now leading the pre-opening team at the much-anticipated Palazzo Versace, which is located on the banks of Dubai Creek.

The opening of the hotel was last year pushed to the second half of 2014, although developer Enshaa is currently not confirming any planned dates. As recently as July construction work was still ongoing.

A spokesperson for the Burj Al Arab confirmed that Morio left the hotel last month and that Hotel Manager Ammar Hilal was currently leading operations.

Palazzo Versace is set to have 217 suites, decorated with furnishings from the Italian designer’s Home range.

Morio brings over 25 years of operational experience in luxury hotels from around the world, including Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten in Hamburg, Plaza Athenee and Ritz Carlton in New York, Turnberry Isle in Florida, One&Only Le Saint Géran in Mauritius, and The Peninsula in Beverly Hills.Prior to joining Jumeirah, Morio held the position of general manager of One&Only Le Touessrok, Mauritius where he successfully directed the closure, re-opening and re-positioning of the hotel.
