Marriott International has appointed Toni Stoeckl as its vice president of Lifestyle Brands, giving him global responsibility for Renaissance Hotels, AC Hotels by Marriott and Moxy Hotels.

He previously served as vice president for the Renaissance Hotels brand and, in his newly expanded role, will drive, define and execute global brand strategies and signature programming for more than 225 hotels around the world.

Stoeckl will also be involved in the future development and global growth of each brand. In addition to his strategic and operational responsibilities, he will play a key role in defining the direction of the global marketing strategy for the brands, helping to ensure they each remain in the lifestyle category.

“Toni is a natural leader who has been instrumental in the evolution of Renaissance Hotels,” said Marriott International global brand officer of luxury and lifestyle brands Tina Edmundson.

“We look forward to his continued success in bringing his experience and fresh ideas to Moxy Hotels and AC Hotels by Marriott.”

Stoeckl began his career in hospitality at his family’s business near Frankfurt, Germany and joined the Sheraton Frankfurt Hotel in 1996 before making the move to the U.S. Before joining Renaissance Hotels in 2009, he served as the global brand director of Starwood's Luxury & Design Brands, based in New York City.

Accounting for nearly 25% of the company’s system-wide pipeline, Marriott International expects to add more than 200 luxury and lifestyle hotel projects over coming years, reflecting more than $15 billion of investment by the company’s owners and franchisees.

Renaissance Hotels has already opened six new hotels this year, with another three set to open by the end of the year, when it should have a total of more than 160 hotels in 37 countries.

Meanwhile, Moxy Hotels recently made its debut with a property near Milan Malpensa Airport in Italy. The brand aims to combine stylish design and approachable service at a reasonable price.

AC Hotels by Marriott launched in Europe in 2011 as a joint venture with Spanish hotelier Antonio Catalan and plans to open its first hotel in the U.S. this fall at the Cotton Exchange Building in New Orleans. It currently has a portfolio of more than 72 hotels in Spain, Italy, Portugal and France.
