W Doha has extended its social media efforts to messaging platform Snapchat, in a move which is likely to be followed closely by hoteliers across the Middle East.

The lifestyle hotel has launched the w.doha account, enabling it to send photos and videos to its followers. It claims it is both the first business in Qatar and the first hotel in the world to take to Snapchat.

It will use the account to keep followers up to date with all that is happening at the hotel, with regular behind the scene pictures, competitions and restaurant offers and more.

This latest social media push follows on from the launch earlier this year of an online reservation system called ‘tweeps’, which allows guests to start the booking process through Twitter.

W Doha Hotel & Residences general manager Safak Guvenc said: “It’s a welcome addition to our already existing communication channels as we continue to offer guests and social media followers the opportunity to ‘Stay Connected’ 24/7, 365 days a year.

“We look for to another year of innovative and forward-thinking activations.”

Marriott International last month launched a network-wide Snapchat account, MarriottHotels, through which it is distributing branded content. It has partnered with a number of well-known personalities on the platform to create content.

Meanwhile, W Doha recently hit the headlines when it became the first hotel in the region to launch mobile, keyless room entry with SPG Keyless.

In addition to Twitter and Snapchat, the hotel is also active on Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp and Blackberry Messenger.
