Zomato launches cashless dining experience. Zomato launches cashless dining experience.

Zomato, the restaurant search and discovery service, is to launch a service whereby diners will be able to pay when eating out through their smartphone, it has been reported.

This will be made possible through their app, Zomato Cashless, which is being tested at the moment to be launched on February 1st 2015 in Dubai, UAE, according to Khaleej Times.

Bringing three prominent habitual trends in the UAE together - namely credit card usage, smartphone usage and eating out culture - Zomato’s CEO Rohin Thampi asserts that the venture will go down well with customers and merchants.

“We will pilot this in Dubai in February 2015 and roll it out in other geographies over the course of the next couple of quarters”, Thampi told the website.

The app will be launched on the iOS platform first, followed by Windows and Android. The cashless payments feature will be in-built in the Zomato app, which is free to download; also there is no extra charge for the user to pay through the app.

Zomato Cashless will not alter the usual dining experience: diners will order from the waiter at the restaurant as they normally would, informing the staff that they will be using the app. This way the final bill for the food is sent directly to the diner’s App on their mobile device against a previously registered payment card.

The payment is processed through a third party payment facility that is legally authorised to safely process such payments; Zomato receives a commission on all transactions from the restaurant.
