All guests at Hyatt hotels and resorts around the world can now access Wi-Fi for free during their stay in their rooms and social spaces, regardless of their booking method or loyalty scheme participation.

In recent months, a number of operators, including Starwood and Marriott, have extended free Wi-Fi access to gusts who are members of their respective loyalty schemes, and who have booked directly.

However, Hyatt has now bucked that trend, with no restrictions on free Wi-Fi, with the exception of meetings rooms; vice president of brands Kristine Rose explained the company’s thinking.

“We continue to evolve our offerings by listening to our guests, and for Hyatt, it didn’t feel natural to put barriers around something travellers view as an essential part of their hotel stay,” she said.

“More than 500 Hyatt-branded hotels and resorts worldwide are excited to now provide Wi-Fi free of charge in guestrooms and social spaces, no strings attached.”

Despite, this latest move by the operator, there will still be added benefits for members of its loyalty scheme. Platinum and Diamond Hyatt Gold Passport members will receive a free upgrade to premium Wi-Fi service in those spaces wherever available, while other guests will also have the option to purchase premium service in those locations.

The company said it was not extending the free Wi-Fi to meeting rooms, where it said bandwidth demand varies by the number of event attendees.
