Atlantis the Palm has laid off 27 of its employees as a result of changes in their staffing structure and ‘market dynamics’, Gulf News reported.
A spokesperson from Atlantis, The Palm said that none of the front desk or staff who are in direct contact with the guests, like waiters, bellhops, bartenders and the rest of the front-office personnel, were affected.
“We have revised our staffing structure by approximately 27 positions to streamline our operations and create additional efficiencies in response to evolving market dynamics,” said the spokesperson.
“These changes will not have any impact on guest experience, quality and standards. Our 3,300 colleagues at [the hotel] will continue their excellent work to provide experiences exceeding our guests’ expectations each and every day.”

Atlantis the Palm is not the only hotel to opt for such practices to deal with the situation; Arabian Courtyard Hotel and Spa and Central Hotels also confirm the subdued outlook, though neither has laid off any staff.
Amongst reasons cited for the downturn, hoteliers said that the drop in occupancy and revenue, regional instability, decline in Russian tourists, low oil prices and strong dollar are some of the main factors for the adverse situation.
