Hayya Jeddah, a shopping and entertainment festival, plans to attract one million visitors in 2016.

The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) says Hayya Jeddah, which takes place from 7 January to 7 February, is expected to attract more than one million visitors to the region.

Adnan bin Hussein Mandoura, the secretary general of the JCCI, said the plan is to ensure there is a major influx of Saudi and Gulf Cooperation Council citizens and residents.

He added that further details of the event would be announced shortly, stating that it would be bigger and better than previous years.

The aim of the festival is to involve a range of sectors, include retail and tourism, to boost Jeddah's profile on a global standing.

Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Majed, is chairman of the Tourism Promotion Council responsible for overseeing preparations for the festival.

The Jeddah festival is part of a wider tourism objective of the Saudi government to expand the non-oil economy in the country.
