Millennium Airport Hotel Dubai has reportedly saved 6.3 million units of electricity in the last five years, resulting in a financial saving of $740,000 (AED2.7 million).

A statement from the hotel credited this to the efforts taken by the engineering department for the savings and listed its other initiatives undertaken to reduce its carbon footprint which include: fine tuning the chillers and AC system, constantly calibrating and replacing defective controller thermostats, replacing incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent lamp bulbs, replacing the building signage with LED lights, fixing timers for corridor lights below and around the atrium during the day, readjusting and increasing the fresh air flow into the building and the temperature of the chillers depending on the ambient temperature, operating them at optimal efficiency range as per the load requirement.

Yogesh Mahajan, the director of engineering at Millennium Airport Hotel Dubai said: “Over the last five years we are steadily applying efficient and wise energy consumption practices across the property that involves constant efforts from my team including all employees in the hotel. We encourage our colleagues to take ownership of the initiative by reminding them to switch off appliances and AC systems when not in use, and to wisely use all the electrical devices as well.”

“Needless to say, guests are becoming environmentally cautious and having these practices in place helps share our guests’ environmental concerns aligning with their philosophy as well,” he concluded.

In August 2012, the property claims to have invested $40,837 (AED150,000) in replacing all halogen lamps with LED lamps in public areas. The property has also managed to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 4,379 metric tons since 2011.
