Sofitel Abu Dhabi Corniche has appointed Kim Gates as the new executive chef for the 280 key property in the capital.

Gates’ has over 30 years experience with international hotel chains and restaurants. He worked previously on the pre-opening team for Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa resort, and in addition to the UAE and Bahrain, he has worked in properties in Australia, Republic of Vanuatu, Maldives and Russian (Sochi and Moscow).

In his new role at the Sofitel Abu Dhabi Corniche, Gates will oversee a team of 52 chefs from 12 different countries. The hotel has already credited Gates for introducing a new Friday brunch concept at outdoor pool bar and restaurant Grills@Chill’O.

Gates’ responsibilities will include existing restaurants Thai Silk & Spice, Grills @ Chill’O, French bakery corner and Le Café lobby lounge. Gates will also oversee room service and banquet facilities for ten to 1,000 guests.

Commenting on his appointment, Gates said: “At the present we are working on new restaurant menus and concepts and Unique Outside Catering, which will be launched this spring.”

Sofitel Abu Dhabi Corniche general manager Nael E-Waary added: “From my five years working experience at two award-wining Sofitel hotels in the UAE and Bahrain, I can state that chef Gates knows how to transform cooking into an art, to arouse the senses of our guests.”
