Foodpanda, the world’s largest online food delivery platform, has announced it will soon use drones to deliver its food with the hope of cutting delivery time to under 30 minutes.

The company has already been making efforts to speed up its service in Hong Kong, following the arrival of its main rival Deliveroo in the city last November - a company that promises an average delivery time of 32 minutes. Deliveroo also recently launched services in Dubai.

Foodpanda has reportedly already tested food drone delivery in Singapore and is preparing to roll out the service throughout its 24 markets in the next few months, with Foodpanda CEO Ralf Wenzel recently telling Forbes: “The technical solutions [of drone delivery] will be available over the next months.”

Foodpanda Singapore managing director Emma Heap told CNBC: "We're constantly looking at the most convenient and fastest experience for customers ordering food online. With our riders navigating traffic, there's a limit as to how fast that can be."

The global food ordering appy would be the first company to deliver food using drones.

Charles Banks, co-founder of The Food People, recently shared his F&B predictions with delegates at the Global Restaurant Investment Forum 2016 and outlined drone delivery as a potential trend.
