The US $6 billion (AED 22.02 billion) Oman Oasis project tourism, featuring a seven-star hotel, sports hospital and a mall was never going to actually go ahead, according to Oman's Ministry of Tourism.

Ahmad Al Meherzi said: “After launching an investigation into the project, it turned out that the project is fake.”

The revelation came after questions were raised by members of Oman’s elected Shura Council regarding the project and its launch, according to a report by Gulf News.

The proposed project by Omani businessman Sabaa Al Saadi was to be built in Shinas province, on the northwestern coast of Oman, and had been unveiled in April 2015 at press conference in Muscat.

Al Meherzi said the project was announced by the Omani national who owns a land project and the Ministry of Tourism had nothing to do with it.
