Rosewood Jeddah hosted the annual Light It Up Blue Initiative in conjunction with the Jeddah Autism Center on World Autism Awareness Day.

This year’s event saw a return of the vertical marathon run during which kids and adults competed to raise awareness about autism and the importance of practicing a healthy lifestyle.

The event started at 9am and was marked with the release of blue balloons in recognition of World Autism Awareness Day. The hotel’s staff were joined by 40 kids from the Jeddah Autism Center, among other associations, as well as Jeddah Autism Center staff and volunteers, who are known as Autism Friends.

The challenge saw attendees split into two team categories and each team run in a relay formation up the 17 floors of Rosewood Jeddah to the rooftop pool and then back down again via a second stairwell to the finish line outside the hotel lobby.

Rosewood Jeddah also arranged for participants to receive a complimentary medical checkup and talk by a certified nutritionist on the importance of good eating habits and leading a fit and healthy lifestyle.

At the end of the event a ceremony was held during which every child was awarded with a medal and certificate.

The winners’ families and Autism Friends were also presented with vouchers for Rosewood Jeddah’s popular Habsburg restaurant as gesture of support and appreciation.

“Autism is still a relatively unknown condition to many of us which is why raising awareness is so important,” said Hans Peter-Leitzke, managing director of Rosewood Jeddah.

He added: “We have worked closely with the Jeddah Autism Center for several years and we really enjoy hosting these events and encouraging the local community to get involved. It also offers a great opportunity for kids with autism and their families to just have fun while learning about how they can improve their lifestyle.”
