Within a few months of opening, The Westin Doha Hotel on Salwa Road has been fined for food products “unfit for human consumption,” according to government health inspectors.
Doha News reports that a spokesperson for the Westin said a small bottle of juice that was one day past its expiration date was found in the fridge of the Luxe Lounge.
The Ministry of Municipality and Environment’s posted a note on its website dated May 18 citing that the Westin venue would be closed for 20 days.
While the lounge’s food and beverage counter is closed, the public seating area will remain open and guests can order snacks and drinks through other restaurants within the hotel.
“The Westin Doha Hotel & Spa takes the health and safety of its guests extremely seriously,” the spokesperson added.
Over a dozen venues are sanctioned each month for food violations by Qatar’s health inspectors, ranging from small diners in the Industrial Area to high-end restaurants in five-star hotels.
The ministry typically provides few details on the severity of the violations it finds, although it sometimes posts images of rotten or mouldy food.
