During The Hotel Show, which took place in Dubai from September 17-19, Hotelier met with RoomNet TV CEO Darren King. The company, which provides TV solutions to hotels around the world uses a cloud-based TV system, which according to King, “keeps cost down and keeps branding up.”

During The Hotel Show, King told Hotelier, that the benefits of this cloud-based system include cost saving to a hotel, since the property does not have the outgoing expense of setting up a server, and the product can also be controlled centrally, meaning that technical issues can be identified “instantly”.

“It’s cheaper to install, it’s the same cost to run, easy to manager, and also highly scalable,” King continued.

In terms of branding, King explained that hotels can tweak the design of the TV interface to match the branding of their website, for example, or to include ongoing offers at the property on the TV's homescreen.

A relatively new development for RoomNet TV is that the company has branched out from offering Apple TV services, to also providing Android TV services for hotels. The benefit of this system, King explained, is that visitors to the hotel can use their own devices to stream content (movies, pictures and music) through the hotel TV.

“While some hotels offer access to Netflix through their TV system, you either have to clear your account data before you leave, or trust that someone else is going to do it.” This concern, King added, is not relevant to the Apple or Android TV model.
