Today’s guests are in search of more aspirational experiences, according to a panel of hospitality experts.

It is important for hoteliers to be in tune with changing consumer trends in order to remain relevant, especially concerning the need for guests to encounter new aspirational experiences, revealed experts at the Great GM Debate 2016.

Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar general manager Darren Darwin said: “We don’t do cookie cutter at all; if you look at the design and architecture of our resorts they’re very much influenced by Oman. They are intensely researched, every square metre has a story to tell, giving memorable experiences.”

He added: “National Geographic stated that between 70-80% of guests are now travelling to have experiences, and we believe we offer exactly that.”

Aleph Hospitality founder & managing Director Bani Haddad commented on the trend, saying: “The other big trend is aspirational – people want to go there [properties] and take a selfie and post their experience on social media. This is true across all market segments – people want to be seen and to experience things and then to post them online.”
