Team members of DoubleTree by Hilton Riyadh – Al Muroj Business Gate have recently completed work on its ninth renovated mosque of 2016. The management's goal is to complete three more by the end of the year.

Hotel general manager Hans Schiller said in a statement: “It doesn’t happen too often when a group of regular people are encouraged by their employer to work on something that matters beyond just the bottom line.”

He added: “I like giving back to the community and I think it is really unique that my employer feels the same way.”

Under the activity name 'Go Slow on the H2O', which is part of the DoubleTree by Hilton’s programme ‘CARE’, sees volunteers – many of whom are Saudi nationals – renovate and repair mosques in Riyadh.

This includes everything from fixing water leaks in bathrooms, which has saved more than 13 million litres of water; to replacing broken tiles; to applying fresh coats of paint.

“As a Saudi (national), I know what my job is, and I know what my responsibility is to my faith, so to be responsible for helping renovate a mosque fills me with nothing but pride,” said Abdulelah Alshalaan, a 25-year-old Riyadh native, who has been employed as the human resources supervisor at Doubletree by Hilton Riyadh for two years.

The head of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage has said it is the responsibility of all citizens to do what they can to improve all mosques throughout the country.

Six volunteers from the hotel – across all departments, from management to kitchen staff – are responsible for regular maintenance visits to the designated monthly mosque.

“This programme has been one of our more successful because, I think, it gets people who care into the community in which they work,” Schiller added. “When your colleagues are contributing to something that matters, they appreciate the trust you have shown in them.”

Launched in March, the mosque community initiative is an exclusive campaign of Doubletree by Hilton Riyadh Al Muroj, which began in 2015.

This campaign is in line with KSA’s country-wide efforts to improve a number of historic mosques.
