According to the government, the number of Chinese arrivals in Egypt has jumped from approximately 65,000 in 2014, to more than 200,000 this year, local media reports.

Tourism is reported to be a main source of currency for Egypt, as a result the North African nation is attempting to attract more visitors from China, the source of the largest number of tourists globally.

Egypt hopes a steady stream of Chinese visitors will help support the struggling economy.

The U.N. World Tourism Organization reported that Chinese represented the world’s biggest spenders when travelling.
