InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) announced last week that it had suffered a data breach at multiple IHG-branded franchise hotel locations in the U.S. and Puerto Rico between September 29, 2016 to December 29, 2016.

However in a statement IHG did not reveal the exact number of properties impacted; however, Travel Weekly UK said the number could be as many as 1,161 IHG hotels. To find out which properties were impacted, guests need to search for hotels that may have been impacted on IHG’s website

This is the second breach that IHG has disclosed this year.

The report adds that malware was able to retrieve data including names, codes and numbers from credit cards used at its properties. A cybersecurity firm has since been hired to investigate the breach and collaborate with law-enforcement officials.
