The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain has appointed chef Christian Knerr as the new executive chef for the hotel who joined the team earlier this month.

Knerr is a German national and has joined The Ritz-Carlton from Harrods London, where he served as the executive chef of the entire mall culinary operations. Knerr brings international experience from Manila, Bali, Dubai, London, Hamburg, Gstaad (Switzerland) and Kitzbuehel (Austria), Djerba (Tunisia), Marmaris (Turkey) and Aachen (Germany). 

He was first exposed to the culinary world from the age of 16 through an internship training program in Reit im Winkl in Germany, while his banker father was moulding him to also become a banker. Shortly after completing his culinary training, Knerr moved to Switzerland to launch his career in fine dining restaurant Le Grand Chalet.

Knerr said in a statement: “After the wonderful experience I had in Harrods, I realised that my career passion sits in the hotel industry, and I am pleased to be joining one of the flagship properties of the Ritz-Carlton portfolio, and I am very keen on taking this success to the next level by working closely with the team and taking ownership in continuing to instil the culture of excellence at The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain.”
