Airbnb - on Thursday, February 22 - launched Airbnb Plus. The new programme offers travellers a new selection of highest quality homes personally inspected by an Airbnb official.

The range of select properties under Airbnb Plus will consist highly rated hosts, 4.8 or more, with great reviews. Any host can apply to be part of the new feature, however, to qualify, the homes will be inspected to meet the 35 requirements required to meet what Airbnb refers to as “home meets design,” according to a report by Skift.

Currently, Skift reports the membership is invite-only to Airbnb Plus and involves an online questionnaire as the first step. However, in the future, any host can apply to be a member of Airbnb Plus for a one-time fee of US $150 (AED 551). In the pilot programme, the potential hosts are set up with design firm Havenly for interior consultations and the listing will be professionally photographed.

“All Airbnb Plus homes are visited in person to ensure comfort, consistency, and design. They are checked for 100+ things that guests told us they love, from must-have amenities to the art on the walls,” the company states on its website.

The new feature also offers its guests reliable check-in and premium support if needed, and will provide focused attention with faster responses to Plus guests, the website adds.

Airbnb Plus is currently available in 13 major markets including Los Angeles, USA and Shanghai, China but Airbnb CEO and co-founder, Brian Chesky tweeted about the plans for expansion in the near future.
