AccorHotels has appointed Puneet Dhawan as the new vice president of economy and midscale operations for the hotel group in the Middle East.

AccorHotels’ presence in the region currently includes 75 hotels in operation, and 50 hotels in development.

Commenting on Dhawan’s appointment, AccorHotels Middle East MD and COO Olivier Granet said: “I am pleased to welcome him on board our expanding Middle East team. Puneet will be instrumental in further strengthening our economy and midscale operations with his expertise.

“He will look after more than 30 opened hotels from brands such as Novotel, Novotel Suites, Mercure, Adagio, ibis and ibis Styles, encompassing over 7,500 rooms. His charge will soon include over 2,500 new rooms from another dozen hotels that we will add in those segments over the next few years.”

Dhawan, who already has 15 years of experience with AccorHotels, previously worked in the Asia Pacific region, including countries such as Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam and India.

Dhawan’s most recent previous role with Accor was as area general manager for AccorHotels in Bengaluru and Chennai in the South of India.

Accor’s new VP of economy and midscale operations holds a Hotel and Restaurant Administration degree from Switzerland, and a Hotel, Restaurant and Travel Administration degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in the United States.
