The Ministry of Tourism is conducting a comprehensive assessment for the operational plan that was approved for 2015.

Various indicators have shown excellent performance in all the divisions of the ministry with the overall achievement rate hitting 72%, said The Oman minister of tourism Ahmed bin Nasser al Mehrzi said at the launch of the Annual Report of the Ministry of Tourism.

The number of tourist arrivals in Oman increased by 17.7% to 2,470,760 in 2015, from 2,098,225 the previous year.

Additionally, cruise ship tourism recorded 147,858 tourists in 2015 compared with 127,216 a year earlier, according to a recent statistics issued by the Ministry of Tourism.

The Sultanate of Oman is moving ahead with its endeavours aimed at developing the tourism sector by tapping its latent potential to boost gross domestic product and provide job opportunities for nationals, the minister said.

The Oman Tourism Strategy for 2016-2040 has been finalised and ratified by the Council of Ministers and it takes into consideration the regional and international developments in the tourism sector over the past years, al Mehrzi added.
