Bahrain’s The Daily Tribune has reported that hotels in Bahrain have been disposing used oil into the sewer lines after flouting health and safety norms.

The report said that Works Ministry sources said:  "The unscrupulous act has led to frequent blocks in the sewer lines adversely affecting the residents in the area,” adding that hotels are supposed to filter used oil before flowing them into sewer lines."

The report said that since most of them [hotels] are not filtering the oil as they should, and therefore are creating blockages in sewer lines.

The report said that Ministry sources had also been informed that hotels are "violating many other norms related to food safety as well."

"Most of them [hotels] do not have fire extinguishers. Basic requirements are also missing at many hotels,” said the report.
