Restaurants and fast-food outlets in Oman are being monitored by CCTV surveillance in an effort to improve standards of hygiene, according to local news reports.

Direct video links to ministry officials, who watch food being prepared, are in place at some popular establishments in order to help reduce the number of food safety violations, and improve the efficiency of health control in municipalities.

A senior ministry official said recently that all restaurants in the Sultanate will be covered by CCTV by the end of 2016, reports Times of Oman.
